Qusayy was blessed with three sons named Abd al-Uzza, Abd Manaf, and Abd al-Dar. As the years went by and Qusayy grew older, he decided it was time to share his important work with his sons, Abd Manaf and Abd al-Dar. He gave Abd al-Dar a very special job called the hijabah. This meant he was the one to take care of the Kabah and keep its keys safe. But that wasn’t all! Qusayy also asked him to look after the siqayah, the liwa’, and the rifadah. These big words simply mean that he was in charge of giving cool water and tasty food to the traveling pilgrims, and he also carried the special flag of Makkah if there was ever a time of war.
Abd al-Dar was very happy to help. He worked very hard and did a wonderful job, just like his father had done before him. Because he was so kind and helpful, all the people in Makkah truly respected and loved him.
Now, Abd Manaf also had a big, beautiful family. He had four sons named Hashim, Abd Shams, al-Muttalib, and Nawfal.
After Abd al-Dar passed away, his children began to do the same important jobs their father had done. However, after some time, they had a small disagreement with their cousins, the children of Abd Manaf, who had also received some special duties from their own father. But don’t worry, dear children, because they solved their problem in a very peaceful way! They decided to share the work fairly. The children of Abd Manaf took care of the siqayah, the rifadah, and the nadwah. Meanwhile, the children of Abd al-Dar kept the important jobs of the hijabah and the liwa’. In this way, everyone was happy, Makkah stayed very peaceful, and they avoided any scary fighting.
