Many years ago, after the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) returned to the place where some of his bravest friends had given their lives for Islam. It had been eight years since the battle took place.

The Prophet stood there and lovingly remembered the martyrs. He prayed for them and said, “I bear witness that we will meet again at Al-Haudh (the Pool of Paradise). From here, I can already see it.”

Then, with a heavy heart, he shared a powerful message. He said, “By Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship idols after me. But I do fear something else — that you will become too fond of this world. That love of money, land, and riches may cause you to argue, fight, and even harm each other.”

He warned, “This greed is what destroyed the people before us. It is not swords that bring ruin, but hearts that forget Allah.”
