Because of the many camel caravans traveling from Makkah all the way to Yemen and Syria, and then to even more parts of our big world, Makkah’s business began to grow very, very quickly. Makkah became the most important center for trade in all of Arabia. Very soon, caravans from many different countries started to arrive, and big groups of travelers brought wonderful goods in and out of the city. This led to many new markets being built all around Makkah so the people could handle all the exciting new business in the area.
Hashim was a very kind leader who made sure that all the business in Makkah was doing well. He looked after his people with great care to make sure all their needs were met during this happy time of growth.
One day, while he was on a long trip to Syria, Hashim stopped at a place called Yathrib. Today, we know this beautiful place as the city of Madinah. While he was visiting there, he married a very good and lady named Salma. She was the daughter of ‘Amr, who belonged to the Khazraj tribe. Salma lived with Hashim in Makkah for a little while, but later on, she went back to her home in Yathrib. It was there, in that peaceful city, that she gave birth to their wonderful son, whom they named Shaybah.
