When Abdur-Rahman ibn Auf moved to Madinah, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) made him like a brother to Sa’d ibn Rabi al-Ansari.

Sa’d told Abdur-Rahman, “I am one of the richest men in Madinah. If you want, I can divorce my wife and you can marry her.”

Abdur-Rahman was kind and said, “May Allah bless you in your family and your wealth.” Then he asked where the market was.

He went to the market and started trading. Soon, he earned a lot of money.

After a few days, Abdur-Rahman came to see the Prophet. The Prophet saw a little yellow mark on his clothes and asked, using a Yemeni word, “Where did this come from?”

Abdur-Rahman smiled and said, “I got married.”

The Prophet asked, “What did you give as dowry?”
He replied, “Just enough gold to weigh like a date seed.”

The Prophet (peace be upon him) smiled and said, “You should have a wedding feast, even if it is just with one goat!”

And so, Abdur-Rahman thanked Allah and had a simple wedding party for his new marriage.
